Egyptian Foreign Minister Cancels India Visit For Second Time Amid Middle East Tensions

Egyptian Foreign Minister's India visit was cancelled for the second time, likely due to escalating Middle East tensions following US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty's visit to India has been cancelled amid tensions in the Middle East. This is the second time when his visit, which was expected to take place this week, was postponed.

Badr was scheduled to hold wide-ranging talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, reported PTI.

Earlier, the Egyptian minister was slated to visit the country in February which was later cancelled.

While no official reason has been given for the cancellation of Badr's visit, according to India Today, the tensions in the Middle East --  flared up by US strikes in Iran -- is one of the probable reasons.

On Sunday, the US carried out a series of airstrikes targeting three major nuclear sites in Iran—Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan—marking a dramatic escalation in the ongoing conflict between Tehran and its adversaries.

In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump declared, “We have completed our very successful attack on the three nuclear sites in Iran... A full payload of bombs was dropped on the primary site, Fordow.” He added that all American aircraft had safely exited Iranian airspace and praised the military, calling them “great American warriors.”

Calling it a defining moment, Trump said, “This is a historic moment for the United States of America, Israel, and the world. Iran must now agree to end this war.” He concluded his message with a striking call for diplomacy: “NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE.”

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi condemned the United States in sharp terms, accusing Washington of breaching the UN Charter, international law, and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) after coordinated airstrikes hit three of Iran’s key nuclear facilities.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Araghchi wrote: “The United States, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, has committed a grave violation of the UN Charter, international law and the NPT by attacking Iran’s peaceful nuclear installations.”
