New Delhi: After Deoghar ropeway mishap, another incident of cable cars getting stuck midair has been reported from Satna district of Madhya Pradesh. Around 28 devotees were trapped in seven trolleys which kept swaying due to bad weather for around 40 minutes, reported India Today.

The devotees were visiting the Maa Sharda Devi Temple on Maihar hill when the cable cars stopped functioning and started swinging amid rough weather.

The ropeway management — despite warning by the weather department to close the service due to possibility of strong winds — continued the services, the publication reported further.

The incident comes close to heels with the Deoghar ropeway incident that happened last year in Jharkhand where three people had died while several were injured.

Following the Deoghar ropeway mishap the Central government had asked all states for safety audit of all ropeway projects to ensure safety and maintenance as per the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), and the necessary guidance may be taken from National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL), news agency IANS had reported.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, in an official communication to all the Chief Secretaries, said the state government must engage an experienced and qualified firm or organisation for carrying out safety audits of each ropeway project.
