'Desh Ka Mood': Know Public Perception Of Rahul Gandhi's Conviction In 'Modi Surname' Case, London Speech — Details

The survey ‘Desh Ka Mood’ was conducted on 10,000 people after Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as a member of Lok Sabha, after being convicted in a four-year-old defamation case.

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has made headlines recently for multiple reasons. Firstly, he was disqualified as a member of the Lok Sabha after he was convicted in the 2019 'Modi surname' defamation case last week. Secondly, during a recent visit to the United Kingdom, he commented on the state of democracy in India, drawing criticism from the ruling BJP government. Finally, he has also been attacking the Modi-led government over the Adani controversy.

The ‘Desh Ka Mood’ survey was conducted with 10,000 participants after Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as a Member of Parliament (MP). This came a day after a court in Surat convicted the Congress leader in a four-year-old defamation case and sentenced him to two years in jail. However, the court has given him 30 days to appeal in any higher court.

As the Lok Sabha elections are less than a year away, ABP News conducted a survey to gauge public opinion on Rahul Gandhi, one of the prominent opposition leaders. The survey included questions about his disqualification from the Lok Sabha and his controversial remarks on democracy during his UK visit.

The margin of error in the survey is plus or minus 3 percent.

Rahul Gandhi has been sentenced to two years imprisonment by Gujarat's Surat Court in the 2019 'Modi surname' defamation case, which resulted in his parliamentary membership being revoked. While there is anger in Congress over the sentence received by Rahul, in the survey, almost 43% of the people have justified his disqualification as an MP. 31% of people said that Rahul's statement was wrong, but he shouldn’t have been disqualified from the Lok Sabha.

During his recent tour in the UK, Rahul Gandhi said that Indian democracy is under threat, drawing criticism from the ruling BJP government. In the survey, 67% of the people said that it is wrong to make such statements in a foreign land.
