Dense Fog Engulfs Entire North India, Visibility Drops To Zero Metre At Several Places

The visibility remained between zero to 50 metres at several places across north India.

New Delhi: Chilling cold and heavy fog continue to grip north India on Monday resulting in low visibility of as low as zero metres at several places. The national capital Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 3 degrees Celsius and reduced visibility at prime locations in the city including ITO, Barapullah and Dhaula Kuan.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Uttar Pradesh's Agra and Lucknow, and Punjab's Bhatinda recorded zero metre visibility at several locations while visibility stood at 25 metres in Amritsar, Ambala, Varanasi, and Bhagalpur.

Due to dense fog, one could see up to only 50 metres in Haryana's Hissar, Delhi's Safdarjung and Palam areas and at several other places in Bihar as well as Uttar Pradesh.

An Air India Express flight from Sharjah to Delhi has been diverted to Jaipur instead of Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi due to low visibility. Around 15 flights have been delayed due to ongoing weather conditions, said an official at Delhi airport, reported ANI.

A satellite image released by the IMD, a fog layer extended from Punjab and adjoining northwest Rajasthan to Bihar across Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh.

Due to fog and reduced visibility, 29 trains are running late in the Northern Railway region.

Residents are lighting bonfires for some relief from the bone-chilling cold in Uttar Pradesh.
