Rains Lash Delhi NCR, Punjab And Haryana Receive Heavy Showers

Delhi's neighbouring states Punjab and Haryana also witnessed heavy rainfall. The temperatures fell marginally below normal.

Moderate rainfall lashed parts of Delhi-NCR as Delhiites woke up to a cloudy morning on Friday. Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 26.6 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal. The maximum temperature in the national capital is expected to settle at 35 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that during the day the national capital is going to receive moderate rainfall. The water level in Yamuna was recorded to be 205.55 metres at 11 am, though marginally above the danger level of 205.33 metres. The water level is slowly descending. 

The neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana witnessed heavy rainfall, which brought the temperature marginally below normal. 

Ambala, Karnal, Panchkula and Kurukshetra in Haryana received moderate to heavy rainfall, PTI reported. Punjab's Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, SBS Nagar, Ludhiana and Rupnagar also saw downpour.

Earlier this month, the two states were flooded following heavy rains. As per PTI, the official data 43 people died  and 19 were injured in rain-related incidents while 40 people died in Haryana in July. The heavy rainfall and floods damaged the crops, property at several places in the two states.

In Punjab, 1,319 are living in 159 relief camps after the heavy rainfall which flooded vast tracts of residential and agricultural land, officials told PTI on Thursday. The state government machinery has been working round the clock in the affected areas. The situation has improved in most areas but some places remain inundated, according to an official statement.

The revenue department said 1,473 villages have been affected by the floods. Among these, 458 villages are in Patiala, the hardest-hit district, 268 in Mohali and 364 in Rupnagar. The department added that 27,286 people were evacuated to safety. At least 181 medical camps have been set up in the affected area, the official statement said.
