Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal Resigns Citing 'Personal Reasons'

Baijal, who took over as the 21st Lieutenant Governor of Delhi earlier on December 31, 2016, served in the post for more than five years and four months.

New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal tendered his resignation on Wednesday citing personal reasons, sources told ABP News.

Baijal, who took over as the 21st Lieutenant Governor of Delhi earlier on December 31, 2016, served in the post for more than five years and four months.

He has sent his resignation letter to the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Baijal, who joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1969, held several eminent positions in an illustrious long career spanning over 37 years.

He served as Union Home  Secretary, Secretary, Urban Development, Government of India, Vice-Chairman of Delhi  Development Authority, Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Joint  Secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Chairman and MD of Indian  Airlines, CEO of Prasar Bharati, Development Commissioner of Goa, Commissioner (Sales Tax and Excise) of Delhi, Counsellor In-charge of the Indian Aid Programme in Nepal, Embassy of India, Kathmandu, among other positions.

He was responsible for the introduction of DD Bharti.

Baijal also served as a Member of the Advisory Group for Integrated Development of Power, Coal and Renewable Energy chaired by Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, currently Minister of Railways.

He was the chairman of a high-level committee on implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility in 2016.

Baijal holds Master’s Degree in Arts from the University of Allahabad and the University of East Anglia.

Meanwhile, Colonel Ajay Kothiyal (retired), who was Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) chief ministerial candidate in the Uttarakhand Assembly polls, resigned from the party’s primary membership.

“I have been a member of the Aam Aadmi Party from April 19, 2021, to May 18, 2022. I am resigning from the primary member of the Aam Aadmi Party keeping in mind the sentiments of ex-servicemen, ex-paramilitary personnel, elderly, women, youth and intellectuals,” he said in his resignation letter posted on Twitter.
