Delhi: CM Arvind Kejriwal demands use of ballot paper in place of EVMs in upcoming MCD elections

New Delhi: After speculation over ‘tampering’ Assembly election results, with Bhartiya Janta Party clean sweeping the polls with absolute majority surfaced; Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday sought that the Delhi MCD elections, which will take place in April, be conducted via ballot paper instead of EVM machines. Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday wrote to Election Commission, saying EVMs should not be used for upcoming Municipal Elections in Delhi. The row started when BSP surpemo Mayawati raised questions over the startling election results in Uttar Pradesh. Mayawati alleged that the EVMs were tampered with. "The shocking result of the assembly elections indicates that the EVMs accepted votes only in favour of the BJP," Mayawati told a press briefing. "After the results in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, all opposition parties should think about it more seriously," Mayawati said. Election result date to be announced today: The Chief of Delhi Election Commission is likely to address a press conference on Tuesday evening at 5 pm and announce dates of the upcoming MCD polls.
