New Delhi: A day ahead of United States President Donald Trump's visit to the national capital, several reports of violent clashes came out on Monday with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal seeking Central government to restore law and order and ensure peace. Tension prevailed on Monday in Maujpur area of north-east Delhi after clashes between pro- and anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)groups with stones being pelted and people running helter-skelter even as the police conducted flag marches to bring the situation under control. As per recent update, Delhi Police Head Constable Ratan Lal was killed during the stone pelting incident after suffering a head injury, while several other police personnel including Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Shahdra, Amit Sharma, were injured during the clashes. At least 50 others, including several paramilitary and Delhi Police personnel, were injured as violence spiralled over the amended citizenship law in northeast Delhi, turning it into a battlefield on Monday with frenzied protesters torching houses, shops, vehicles and a petrol pump, and hurling stones. Protests and rallies by anti and pro-Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) groups rocked the area on Sunday, with pro-CAA groups rallying at Maujpur-Babarpur metro station, and Maujpur chowk while the anti-CAA protesters held fort in Kabir Nagar and Jaffarabad areas. Alok Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police, eastern range, told mediapersons that the situation remained tense in the vicinity and the police were monitoring the situation. Adequate police personnel have been deployed after security forces were pelted with stones during the violence. US President, who is on a 2-day visit to India, will arrive in New Delhi on Tuesday. On February 25, Trump will first receive a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhawan as per protocol. From there, he will go to Rajghat to pay homage at the samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi. This will be followed by both, restricted, and delegation-level talks between Trump and and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Hyderabad House in the national capital.
