'Dear Modi Ji, This Jumla Won't Work': Congress On Reduced Fuel Prices On Diwali
"In May 2014, when petrol was Rs 71 and diesel was Rs 55 per liter, then crude oil was $105.71 per barrel. Today crude oil is $ 82 per barrel. When will the price be equal to 2014?" asked Congress
Congress on Petrol Diesel Price Drop: Congress termed the reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel by the central government as a step taken due to the defeat of the BJP in the recent by-polls.
Party's chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala tweeted, "Congratulations to the countrymen for teaching a lesson to the Taxjivi Modi government. The loss of votes in democracy has shown the mirror of truth to BJP."
"Remember that in May 2014, when petrol was Rs 71.41 and diesel was Rs 55.49 per liter, then crude oil was $105.71 per barrel. Today crude oil is $ 82 per barrel. When will the price be equal to 2014?" Sujrewala asked.
Surjewala asserted, "During the Congress government (UPA government), the excise duty on petrol was Rs 9.48 per liter and on diesel Rs 3.56 per liter. Excise duty on petrol was Rs 32.90 per liter under the Modi government, which is Rs 27.90 per liter today. Similarly, excise duty on diesel was Rs 31.80 per liter, which is now Rs 21.80 per liter. Modi ji, this jumla won't work, you have to reduce the rates that you have increased."

He said, "Dear countrymen, understand the rhetoric of Modinomics! This year in 2021, the price of petrol was increased by Rs 28 and the price of diesel by Rs 26. The rate of petrol and diesel was decreased by Rs 5 and Rs 10 respectively as soon as the by-polls were lost in 14 seats in the country. Even decreasing the prices by 5 & 10 rupees has become the Prime Minister's gift for Diwali? Oh, Ram! There is a limit."
At the same time, the BJP welcomed the decision of the central government to cut the prices of petrol and diesel, calling it Prime Minister Narendra Modi's gift of Diwali. BJP President JP Nadda said that this decision will increase consumption and help in keeping inflation down. BJP chief spokesperson Anil Baluni said that PM Modi has given a wonderful gift on Diwali.
The government took an important step on Wednesday to give some relief to the common people from inflation. After fuel prices hit a record high, the Center cut excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10, respectively. This announcement made on the eve of Diwali will help in bringing down the skyrocketing fuel prices and will also bring some relief to the common man who is suffering from inflation.
