Cyclone Biparjoy: Red Alert In Saurashtra, Kutch, Mandvi Sees Strong Winds, Over 100 Trains Hit—Top Updates

Union Minister Parshottam Rupala said that PM Modi took stock of the arrangements from concerned officials and ministers and directed them to be on alert mode and take all necessary steps.

In view of safety of passengers in view of Cyclone Biparjoy, 69 trains have been cancelled, 33 trains have been short-terminated, while 27 trains short-originated as a precautionary measure, says CPRO Western Railway. India Meterological Department has sounded red alert in Gujarat's Saurashtra and Kutch as cyclone Biparjoy is set to make a landfall in the state tomorrow.

IMD said that the fishermen have been asked to stay away from the Northeast Arabian Sea till June 15. The weatherman predicted heavy rains in Saurashtra and Kutch today and tomorrow. Heavy rain is likely in Devbhoomi Dwarka and Jamnagar too.

  • Heavy rain is expected in Gujarat's Kutch, Dwarka, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Rajkot, Morbi and Junagadh on June 14 and 15. Five people have been killed in Mumbai and Gujarat. Winds can blow at a speed of 140 kmph in these districts.
  • Around twenty thousand people have been evacuated from 7 districts of Gujarat.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed preparedness for cyclone 'Biparjoy' in the national capital on Tuesday and directed all stakeholders and officers to ensure 'zero casualties' and minimize the possible damage. Chairing the meeting, Shah stressed the need to act swiftly on the important directions given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a review meeting chaired by him on June 12. The Home Minister in the meeting also said that the Centre has deployed an adequate number of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams for relief and rescue operations.

Due to the impact of cyclone Biparjoy trees may fall.  Kutch, Devbhoomi Dwarka, and Jamnagar will receive maximum rainfall. Flooding may occur in some areas. The wind speed will be 50 to 70 kmph Today and tomorrow i.e. on June 15, it can reach 85 kmph. On June 15, winds will be strongest over Kutch, Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Junagadh, and Morbi. The speed can reach 125 to 145 km.
