COVID-19 Guidelines: From Night Curfews To Increasing Fines, Here’s How States Are Trying To Contain Virus Spread

Delhi, Maharasthra, Rajasthan and other states have imposed new restrictions in view of steep rise in Covid-19 cases. Know the rules in detail here.

Coronavirus In India: As a result of a sudden rise in covid-19 cases across the country, states have now geared up to rein in the virus by taking steps from night curfews to imposing prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure(CrPc). Here are the steps taken by various states: Delhi: As the national capital continues to grapple hard with Covid-19 pandemic as a steep rise in the Covid figures have caught both the administration and the residents off guard, which is being termed as the third wave by many. Delhi government increased the penalty for not wearing masks in public places from ₹500 to ₹2,000. Delhi also imposed Section 144 CrPC around India Gate. In the latest order, only 50 people will now be allowed at marriage functions in the capital city. Rajasthan: The Rajasthan government has reimposed the limit of 100 guests at weddings across the state as a result of sudden rise in coronavirus cases. CM Ashok Gehlot has directed officials to increase the penalty amount from 10,000 to Rs 25,000 if more than 100 people were found to have gathered at any event such as weddings. The Rajasthan has imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in Jaipur till December 20. The government has also imposed night curfew in eight district headquarters including Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Bikaner, Udaipur, Ajmer, Alwar and Bhilwara. The fine for not wearing masks has also been increased from Rs 200 to Rs 500. Madhya Pradesh: Night curfews were back across five cities in the state. MP Home Minister Narottam Mishra said that there will be a night curfew in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Ratlam and Vidisha due to rise in Covid-19 cases. Gujarat: Even in Gujarat, night curfew has been imposed between 9 pm and 6 am. The curfew will remain in force till further orders as per Additional Chief Secretary (Forest and Environment) Rajiv Kumar Gupta. Maharashtra: Now, people travelling to Maharashtra from Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Goa will have to carry Covid negative report from an RT-PCR test. The rules will cover passengers in flights and trains, who have to show the negative test results before boarding. Note, in case of flights, the test has to be undertaken 72 hours before landing while boarding train, the time is 96 hours and will be applicable to trains that halt or terminate in these states.      Meanwhile BMC has directed all schools in Mumbai to stay closed till December 31.
