India Sees Dip In Covid Cases, Logs 1,580 Fresh Cases In Last 24 Hours, Active Tally At 18,009

India has recorded 1,580 fresh Covid infections, while the active cases have come down to 18,009 from 19,613, according to the Union Health Ministry data on Friday. The country's tally of COVID-19 cases now stands at 4.49 crore (4,49,76,599). The death toll has climbed to 5,31,753 with 12 fatalities which includes those reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated. The active cases comprise 0.04 per cent of the total infections.

The national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.77 per cent, the ministry said, adding the number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,44,28,417, while the case fatality rate was at 1.18 per cent. According to the ministry's website, 220.66 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive. 

Maharashtra on Thursday recorded 149 fresh coronavirus cases, while no new death linked to the infection was registered in the state, where 362 more patients recovered, said the health department. With this, the state's overall COVID-19 tally rose to 81,68,096, while the death toll remained unchanged at 1,48,541, said a health department bulletin.

Mumbai logged 48 cases in the last 24 hours The state had recorded 154 cases and one fatality on Wednesday. At present, the dominant variant of COVID-19 is Omicron XBB.1.16, which has been found in 1,241 cases so far and caused 13 deaths in the state, said the bulletin.

It said 362 patients recovered from the coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, taking their cumulative count to 80,18,345 and leaving the state with an active caseload of 1,210. The state's coronavirus recovery rate was 98.17 per cent. The health department said 7,740 new coronavirus tests were conducted in the state, bringing the total to 8,70,74,379.

Delhi recorded 43 fresh COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 1.8 per cent on Thursday, according to data shared by the city government's health department. No fresh Covid-linked fatality was reported. With this, Delhi's Covid case tally has climbed to 20,40,347, while the death toll due to the viral disease stands at 26,649, according to the latest bulletin issued by the health department.

Delhi recorded 75 coronavirus cases with a positivity rate of 3.43 per cent and one Covid-related fatality on Wednesday. The fresh cases emerged from the 2,387 tests conducted the previous day, the bulletin said. The number of active cases of the infection stands at 441, of which 341 patients are in home isolation.
