India Clocks 656 New Covid Cases, Active Tally Down To 13,037

India on Tuesday clocked 656 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The active caseload decreased to 13,037.

India logged 656 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours. The active caseload has decreased to 13,037 from 14,493, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday. The death toll has increased by 12 taking the tally to 5,31,790. The 12 deaths that were reported include three reconciled by Kerala. The Covid case tally for India was recorded at 4.49 crore (4,49,82,131). The active cases now comprise 0.03 per cent of the total infections and the national Covid recovery rate was recorded at 98.79 per cent, the ministry said.

The number of people who have recovered from Covid-19 surged to 4,44,37,304 and the case fatality rate stood at 1.18 per cent.  According to the health ministry's website, 220.66 crore doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered so far in the country under the nationwide vaccination drive.

Maharashtra Sees 22 COVID Cases And 3 Deaths

Maharashtra on Monday logged 22 fresh Covid-19 cases which took the tally to 81,68,425, read a state health department report. The death toll in the state increased by three in the last 24 hours due to complications related to the viral disease, making it now stand at 1,48,545 Maharashtra is now left with 809 active cases.

The Mumbai circle reported the highest count of fresh cases on Monday which was followed by three in the Pune circle and one in the Nashik circle. Other circles such as Akola and Aurangabad, Amaravati, Kolhapur, Latur, and Nagpur did not report any case, the health department said. Out of the three deaths, one died in each Mumbai, Pune, and Satara

Maharashtra's cumulative number of recoveries rose to 80,19,071 and the recovery rate was recorded at 98.17 per cent while the fatality rate was 1.81 per cent.

In total, 2,276 samples were tested till Monday in the 24-hour period - 1,668 at government laboratories and 570 at private labs, and 38 by self-testing kits. The number of samples tested till now was recorded at 8,70,97,380, as per the health department.
