Coronavirus Lockdown: Over 200 Morning Walkers Arrested In Chandigarh, FIR Registered

The Chandigarh Police has been criticized by the Ministry of Home Affairs for not acting over people breaking social distancing practice.

New Delhi: Several countries around the globe have made it mandatory for their citizens to quarantine themselves to combat the novel Coronavirus infection which has turned everything upside down. Till 13th April 2020, the outbreak of the Coronavirus or COVID-19 had spread to six continents, and approximately 1,14,331 people had died after contracting the deadly respiratory virus. The nation is under 21-day lockdown and everyone is asked to stay indoors to stop the spread of Coronavirus. It has been found that people in Chandigarh are not embracing the social distancing practice as around 200-morning walkers have been arrested by the Chandigarh Police. The Home Ministry pulled up Chandigarh police for not keeping a tab on morning walkers. Under lockdown, nobody is allowed to step out of the house unless to buy essential items. The residents of Chandigarh discontinued this lockdown rule and came out from their houses for morning walks. The Chandigarh Police has been criticized by the Ministry of Home Affairs for not acting over people breaking social distancing practice. On reacting to it Chandigarh Police took action and arrested more than 200-morning walkers. The Police also registered FIRs against them. The people have been arrested as they were found violating the norm of quarantine directed by the government. India’s count of Coronavirus cases crossed 9,000 on Sunday. As per the reports of the Union of Health Ministry, 796 new infections were reported in past 24 hours. The death toll in India from COVID-19 has risen to 308 while 856 patients have been cured of the virus or discharged.
