Congress Somehow Managed To Run Govt For 10 Years, But...: PM Modi's Dig At Predecessor

"NDA means N=New India, D=Development, A=Aspiration," said Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the NDA meeting in Delhi.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday took a dig at his predecessor Manmohan Singh and erstwhile Congress president Sonia Gandhi, saying that Congress somehow managed to run the government for 10 years. But its tenure was marked by a PM who had a higher command above him.

Targeting the Opposition, Modi said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) never sought help from foreign countries to oppose the Indian government.

While addressing the NDA meeting in Delhi, Modi said, "Even when we were in the opposition, we always did positive politics. In opposition, we brought out scams of the then govts but, never insulted the mandate of the people. We never took the help of foreign powers against the ruling governments. We never created hurdles in development schemes meant for the country."

Modi said that NDA stands for "N=New India, D=Development, A=Aspiration."

His comments came after Congress today proposed the Opposition alliance to be called 'INDIA' which stands for 'Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance.'

"NDA is not the symbol of coalition and compulsion but the symbol of coalition and contribution. In NDA, no party is small or big. We all are walking together towards the same goal," Modi stated.

Notably, on Tuesday, the opposition parties held a meeting in Bengaluru, while the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) met in the national capital, to discuss strategy ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

"NDA is committed to the people of the country. Its ideology is Nation First, Security of nation first, Progress First, Empowerment of people first," PM added.

BJP-led NDA held deliberations with 37 of its partners in the National Democratic Front for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections at a mega meeting in Delhi.

BJP president JP Nadda said that the increase in the number of NDA partners from 24 in 1998 to 38 in 2023 showed the scale of expansion of the alliance and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity.
