Shashi Tharoor Invites Coldplay To Kerala After ‘Phenomenal’ India Tour: ‘God’s Own Country Sometime Soon’
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor invited Coldplay to perform in Kerala, praising their India tour as "phenomenal."
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Monday hailed Coldplay's recently concluded India tour as "absolutely phenomenal" and extended an invitation to the British rock band to perform in Kerala in the future. Tharoor's remarks came after the band's five-day performance series across Mumbai and Ahmedabad, which captivated fans across the country.
"Touched to see our very own Jasprit Bumrah get a shoutout from Chris Martin. What's more, I agree! Coldplay's five-day run in India at Mumbai and Ahmedabad has been absolutely phenomenal. Hoping Kerala gets its chance to host these grand-scale shows too! With our beauty, unmatched hospitality, and that special vibe, we'd be the perfect hosts. See you in God's Own Country sometime soon, Coldplay," Tharoor wrote on X.

The final leg of Coldplay's 'Music of the Spheres' tour in India culminated with two sold-out concerts in Ahmedabad over the weekend, leaving fans mesmerised. The highlight was the massive Sunday performance at the Narendra Modi Stadium, where over one lakh fans gathered to witness the band's largest-ever show in India. Many fans opined that the Ahmedabad shows far exceeded the scale and execution of the earlier performances in Mumbai.

Coldplay's India Tour: From Underwhelming Mumbai Concerts To Sensational Ahmedabad Finale
The band's India tour began with back-to-back concerts at DY Patil Sports Stadium in Navi Mumbai on January 18-19, followed by another show on January 21. Despite tickets selling out within minutes, some fans were left disappointed, describing the Mumbai concerts as underwhelming compared to Coldplay's usual high standards.
However, Ahmedabad offered a stark contrast. The packed stadium witnessed an enthusiastic show with fans singing along to the Grammy-winning band's hits. The concert reached its peak when Indian cricketer Jasprit Bumrah made an appearance, and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin gave a special shoutout to the bowling sensation, garnering an electrifying response from the crowd.
In a post-concert message on X, Coldplay expressed gratitude to the Indian fans. "Thank you Ahmedabad, thank you India. We'll never forget these two weeks. Your love and kindness will stay with us forever," the band said after their performance at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.

Comprising Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, and Will Champion, Coldplay kicked off their India tour in Mumbai on January 18, before heading to Ahmedabad for two more concerts on January 25 and January 26. The band, known for hits like "Hymn for the Weekend", "The Scientist", "Clocks", "Yellow", and "Speed of Sound", first performed in India in 2016 at the Global Citizen Festival in Mumbai.
Throughout the shows, frontman Martin charmed the audience with interactions in Hindi, Marathi, and Gujarati. He also gave shoutouts to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and cricketer Jasprit Bumrah, who attended the Ahmedabad concert on Sunday. Martin also marked India's 76th Republic Day celebrations, singing AR Rahman's patriotic anthem "Maa Tujhe Salaam."
Several personalities, including film stars Kartik Aaryan, Suhana Khan, Shreya Ghoshal, Kajal Aggarwal, Vijay Varma, and former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, were seen at Coldplay's concerts in the past two weeks.
