'Timing Is Suspect': Congress Leader Gaurav Gogoi Says X Account 'Restricted'
Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi has said he has received complaints from people saying they were not being able to access his X account.
Guwahati: Assam Member of Parliament (MP) and Deputy Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi late Saturday expressed apprehension that his X (formerly Twitter) account has been “restricted.”
The Lok Sabha MP from Assam’s Kaliabor constituency said that he has received complaints from several people mentioning that they were unable to access his X account and each time they tried it said “Cannot retrieve posts at this time, please try again later.”
Gaurav Gogoi told ABP Live, “It is mysterious how my Twitter account has been restricted for a large section of Twitter users. The timing is suspect. I hope the anomaly will be restored soon.”
"As of now, Twitter has not informed me of any such action on their part. I will look forward to a clarification," the Congress told PTI.
However, the problem persisted till the filing of this report on Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) said that Gaurav Gogoi’s X account has been restricted by the Twitter authorities since Saturday evening and no one using an Android mobile phone was being able to view his account. The grand old party said that they have asked technologists to monitor the issue.
Recently, Gogoi was engaged in a war of words with Assam CM Himanta Sarma over the latter allegedly using his influence to get government subsidies for his wife’s company. He accused Assam CM's wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma of receiving Rs 10 crore credit-linked subsidy under the ‘Kisan Sampada scheme’ for her company.
However, Sarma has refuted any claims of receiving subsidies from the Central government.
Gogoi was recently engaged in a war of words with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Gogoi sought Sarma's resignation and a probe into the alleged government grants and land acquisition by Pride East Entertainment Private Limited, a company owned by the latter's wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma.
