'Your Political Forebears Had Opposed…': Kharge Responds To PM Modi’s ‘Quit India’ Jibe At Opposition
Responding to PM Narendra Modi’s barb, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that his political forebears had opposed Mahatma Gandhi’s ‘Quit India’.
New Delhi: Hitting back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his ‘Quit India’ jibe at the Opposition bloc, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that his political forebears had opposed Mahatma Gandhi’s ‘Quit India’ and had worked for the British rulers
Taking a dig at the Opposition by invoking the ‘Quit India Movement’ in its anniversary month, PM Modi on Sunday, while laying the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations across the country, said people across the whole country were calling for “these evil forces to quit India”.
Responding to PM Modi’s barb, the Congress national president said in a tweet, “Your political forebears pitted Indians against Indians, supported the British rule, played the role of whistleblowers and had strongly opposed the ‘Quit India’ call.”

पिछले 10 सालों से आपने केवल तोड़ने की नकारात्मक राजनीति की है। आपकी वाणी से अब INDIA के लिए भी कटु शब्द निकल रहें हैं।

Claiming further that PM Modi’s political ancestors had a “suspected role” in the conspiracy to assassinate the Father of the Nation, Kharge tweeted that they “opposed the tricolor”.
“They did not hoist the tricolour until 52 years of independence. Sardar (Vallabh Bhai) Patel had warned them against boycotting the tricolour. The BJP never cared to remember or commemorate the ‘Quit India Movement’ until now,” the Congress leader added in his tweet.
Striking back at the PM over his takedown of the Opposition alliance, the Congress leader wrote, “For the last 10 years, you have only done negative politics of breaking the country and dividing the people. Now, you have bitter words for I.N.D.I.A (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) as well.”
On the Centre’s handling of the Manipur situation, Kharge wrote, “You have not been able to control the Manipur violence over the last three months. Your divisive politics has pitted communities against each other, leading to civil war-like situations. More than 150 people have been killed (in Manipur) so far.”
Further, lashing out at the Centre over the violence in Haryana’s Nuh district on July 31, and similar incidents thereafter in neighbouring areas of the state, the Congress leader tweeted, “The whole country is watching what is happening in Haryana. In a state where there have been no riots for decades, your government and the Sangh Parivar are pitting brothers against one another. Radical criminals are enemies of the society, irrespective of religion.”
Further lashing out at the PM, he tweeted, “All that you have given this country over the last 10 years in power are unemployment, inflation, economic inequality, poverty, and insecurity for women, Dalit oppression and social injustice. All this needs to end but seems impossible under your government. There is disappointment among the people. Instead of solving their problems, you find a new inauguration programme to grace every day. You resort to politics at public events by attacking the Opposition. This is our victory. India will join, I.N.D.I.A will win!”
