Many senior leaders, including former Chief Minister Harish Rawat has been detained by the police, reported news agency ANI.

Since Rahul Gandhi's disqualification as a Lok Sabha MP, the Congress has intensified its campaign against the ruling BJP.

Last week, a Surat court sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years in jail in a 2019 criminal defamation case over his "why all thieves have Modi surname" remark. Following the sentence, he was disqualified from the Lok Sabha.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi on Monday agreed to vacate the government accommodation after a notice was sent to him by Lok Sabha secretariat following his disqualification as an MP.

"As an elected Member of Lok Sabha over last 4 terms, it is the mandate of the people to which I owe the happy memories of my time spent here. Without prejudice to my rights, I will, of course, abide by the details contained in your letter," Rahul Gandhi wrote to Deputy Secretary, MS Branch, Lok Sabha Secretariat.

Rahul Gandhi has been satying in his bungalow located in Lutyen's Delhi since 2004, when he first won his Lok Sabha election from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.
