Congress leader talks of killing me but I am not bothered about threats, says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday targeted the opposition saying its hatred for him is "reaching new levels", including calling for his killing, but he was not bothered about threats and will do what it takes to make India strong.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he is not bothered about threats and abuses against him.

PM Modi said every drop of his blood was for India and he would do what it takes to make India strong.

He said the opposition's hatred against him was reaching new levels daily and they have a competition over who abused him the most.

BENGALURU: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday targeted the opposition saying its hatred for him is "reaching new levels", including calling for his killing, but he was not bothered about threats and will do what it takes to make India strong. "Modi's hatred among the opposition is reaching at new level. They have a competition, who will abuse me the most. Someone will abuse me. Then someone will mock my poverty. Then someone will abuse my family. Then someone will abuse my lower caste origins," Modi said addressing a public gathering in Chennai along with allied party leaders like Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam from the AIADMK. Citing a Karnataka Congress leader Belur Gopalakrishna's remark on "killing" him, he said, "Now one Congress leader talks of killing Modi, but I want to tell them I am not bothered about their threats and abuses. I am here to do my work, I am here to do whatever I can do to make India strong and prosperous." He said every drop of blood in his veins, "every breath of mine, every second of my time" was for India and its 130 crore people. Congress MLA Belur Gopalakrishna sparked a controversy with his alleged remarks at a party function asking right wing members "to shoot" Modi "if they had they had the guts" to do so, following which the BJP's Karnataka unit has reportedly filed a complaint against him with the Bengaluru police. "My dear friends, these people who speak in favour of Godse today, such people should not stay in the country. If they move to murder the democracy of this country.... If you (extreme right wingers) have the guts, shoot down your Modi. Don't kill anybody else. I am very happy...," Gopalakrishna is heard saying in the purported video. Defending his remarks, the Congress lawmaker said he never said he will kill Modi. "I never said I will kill Modi. These people insulted the father of the nation, shot at his effigy and said that if Gandhi was alive today they would have shot him dead. "I only asked them (extreme right wing outfits) if they have the guts to shoot the prime minister," said Gopalakrishna. Previously, he was in the BJP and jumped to the Congress after he was denied a ticket in the assembly election to contest from Sagar constituency last year. Before that he was in the JDS.
