Congress leader Adhir Ranjan compares PM Modi to 'gandi naali', sparks uproar in Lok Sabha

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury also went on to say "don't compare a monk and a monster".

New Delhi: Leader of Congress party in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury made an objectionable remark against PM Narendra Modi in the Parliament House this afternoon. While saying there's no comparison between Indira Gandhi and Narendra Modi, Chowdhury said, "kahan maa ganga, kahan gandi naali (one is Mother Ganges, other is a dirty drain). His comments drew sharp condemnation from BJP members in the Parliament. Speaking in the Lok Sabha on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address, the newly-elected Leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha also went on to say "don't compare a monk and a monster". Chowdhury made the flippant remark even as he said Narendra Modi "deserves respect for becoming the prime minister twice". In his scathing attack, the Congress leader said the government could not find anything against Sonia and Rahul Gandhi in the alleged scams which is a reason why they continue to remain Parliamentarians. "Did you manage to catch anybody in 2G & coal allocation scam? Did you manage to send Sonia Gandhi ji & Rahul Gandhi ji behind the bars? You came to power by calling them thieves, then how are they sitting in the parliament,"he asked. Chowdhury said the BJP came back to power as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a "very big salesman" while the Congress failed to market its product in the general elections. "Our Prime Minister is a very big salesman. We (Congress) have been unable to sell our product, that is why we lost(Lok Sabha elections)," he said.
