Congress Forms Seven Member Committee To Assess Assam - Mizoram Border Dispute

Five policemen died and at least 50 were wounded in the violent brawl at a disputed Assam – Mizoram border area.

Guwahati: A 7-member committee has been formed by Congress immediately to visit Cachar and other areas to assess the Assam - Mizoram border dispute on the ground and the ongoing violence that has cost lives including that of police personnel.

Five policemen died and at least 50 were wounded in the violent brawl at a disputed Assam – Mizoram border area. Tensions have been boiling, escalating boundary conflict between the north eastern states.

The Chief Ministers of both the states have demanded the intervention of the home minister in the matter.

The committee will comprise of Bhupen Bora (President Assam Pradesh Congress Committee), Debabrata Saikia (CLP Leader, Assam Assembly), MP Pradyut Bordoloi, Rockibul Hussain (Deputy CLP Leader, Assam Assembly), MP Gaurav Gogoi, Sushmita Deb (President All India Mahila Congress Cornmittee), MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha (Working President, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee).

The reports of the same will be submitted to the party within next few days.
