'Congress' DNA Is In Pakistan's Favour': Shivraj Singh Chouhan Slams Digvijaya Singh Over 'Surgical Strike' Remark

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan alleged Congress' DNA lying in Pakistan's favour, while responding to Digvijay Singh's remark on surgical strike.

New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday slammed the Congress party for Digvijay Singh's remark on India's surgical strike against Pakistan. Taking a dig at Congress, Chouhan said, "Congress' DNA is in favor of Pakistan."

He also claimed that Singh's remarks were an attempt to demoralise the Indian Army.

Questioning Rahul Gandhi about his Bharat Jodo Yatra, Chouhan asked, 'What kind of Bharat Jodo Yatra is this while having Tukde Tukde gang walking beside,' reported news agency ANI.

Chouhan further said, "Cong's DNA is in favour of Pak. It's an attempt to demoralize Army. They are showing that they stand with Pak. Rahul Gandhi ji what kind of Bharat Jodo yatra is this? Tukde-tukde gang is walking with you."

Chouhan's statement comes after Congress leader Digvijay Singh questioned the credibility of surgical strikes during the ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir. He said, "They (Centre) talk about surgical strikes and that they have killed so many of them but there is no proof."

However, Singh later said, "I have got the greatest regards for the defence forces."

Congress party distanced itself from Singh's infamous remarks, saying that his views were personal and didn't reflect the party's stance. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh tweeted, "The views expressed by senior leader Digvijaya Singh are his own and do not reflect the position of Congress. Surgical strikes were carried out before 2014 by UPA government. Congress has supported & will continue to support all military actions that are in the national interest."

In September 2016, four terrorists of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed entered the Army camp in Uri near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir and launched a suicide attack on an Indian Army brigade Headquarters, leaving 19 soldiers dead.

In retaliation, the Indian Army troops including the commandos from various Para (Special Forces) units deployed in Jammu and Kashmir carried out strikes across the border on multiple targets. Since then, the government has been observing September 29 as “Surgical Strike Day.”
