Congress Rejigs State Units: Shaktisinh Gohil Gujarat Chief, Deepak Babaria Made Haryana And Delhi In-Charge
The Congress appointed Shaktisinh Gohil as the new Gujarat PCC president on Friday and relieved him of his duties as AICC in-charge of Haryana and Delhi by appointing Deepak Babariya in his place.
The Congress party appointed three state party chiefs and one state unit party president on Friday (June 9). Deepak Babaria was named All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Haryana and Delhi in place of Shaktisinh Gohil, while Gohil was named the new President of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) in Gujarat. The party also named V Vaithilingam as the chief of the Puducherry PCC and Varsha Eknath Gaikwad as the leader of the Mumbai RCC.
"The Congress president has appointed Shaktisinh Gohil as the new Gujarat PCC president and V Vaithilingam, MP, as the new Puducherry PCC president," according to an official statement. "The Congress President has appointed Shri Deepak Babaria as AICC in-charge of Haryana and Delhi with immediate effect," the party announced in another official order.
It also stated that the party values the contributions of outgoing AICC president Gohil. Gohil has taken over for Jagdish Thakor, who resigned following the party's poor performance in the Gujarat assembly elections, when it received its lowest-ever legislator tally.
MLA Varsha Gaikwad was also named the new president of the Mumbai RCC (Regional Congress Committee) by the Congress. She takes over for Bhai Jagtap. A V Subramanian has been replaced as Puducherry PCC chief by Vaithilingam.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has also appointed Mansoor Ali Khan as secretary, AICC attached to the AICC in-charge of Telangana.
Furthermore, P C Vishnunadh, secretary of the AICC, has been relieved of his current responsibilities in Karnataka and is now assigned to the AICC in charge of Telangana.
"The party appreciates N S Boseraju and Nadeem Javed's contributions and relieves them of their responsibilities as AICC secretaries," the party said.
In another order, the Congress president approved the proposal for the appointment of chairmen of various committees, as well as the establishment of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee's Disciplinary Action Committee, with immediate effect.
While Jagneswar Babu has been named chairman of the AICC Programme Implementation Committee for Odisha, Sanjay Tripathy has been appointed chairman of the Publicity and Publication Committee, and Panchanan Kanungo has been appointed chairman of the Manifesto Committee.
The Congress chief also established a six-member Disciplinary Action Committee for the Odisha Pradesh Congress, chaired by Santosh Singh Salluja and convened by Janaki Ballav Pattanaik. Bhujabala Majhi, Rajendra Chhatria, Debendra Sahoo, and Pratima Mallik have been appointed to the Odisha Congress disciplinary panel.
