Modi Govt's Inaction Against China 'Jeopardising' Close Neighbours: Rahul Gandhi
Rahul Gandhi cited a news report that claimed China is now building illegal villages in Bhutan, posing a fresh threat to India.
New Delhi: Amid the ongoing standoff between India and China along the LAC in eastern Ladakh, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday slammed the Modi government alleging that first it 'surrendered' its own land to Beijing and is now jeopardising country's neighbours by not pushing it back.
"Modi Government first surrendered our land and has now jeopardised our close neighbours by its inaction in pushing back China. If you don't stand up for yourself, how will you stand up for your friends," Rahul Gandhi tweeted.
In the tweet, Gandhi cited a news report that claimed China is now building illegal villages in Bhutan, posing a fresh threat to India.
Several media reports claim that China is constructing villages in a disputed territory in Bhutan, which is less than 30 km from the trijunction Doklam plateau.
The revelation started making headlines after high-resolution satellite imagery surfaced with the security establishments. Sources close to news agency IANS said that Chinese villages within the disputed territory in Bhutan are likely to be used for both military and civilian purposes.
In October 2021, China and Bhutan had signed a pact on a three-step roadmap to resolve their boundary disputes. Responding to the matter, India had then said that "it has noted the development."
The former Congress President's remarks came a day after India and China held 14th round of military-level talks to resolve the Ladakh border issue.
The meeting, however, remained inconclusive and representatives of both sides agreed to stay in close contact and maintain dialogue to work out a mutually acceptable resolution of the remaining issues at the earliest.
