China & India Should Help Each Other Instead Of Draining Each Others’ Energies: Chinese Foreign Minister

Wang acknowledged the deteriorating ties in an press meeting saying that it “had met with some setbacks” in recent years.

New Delhi: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, on Monday, said that India and China should help each other accomplish their goals instead of “draining each other’s energies,” reported Reuters.

Following a fatal stand-off at the Galwan Valley in June 2020 which left at least 20 Indians and four Chinese army personnel dead, ties between the two Asian giants deteriorated.

Wang acknowledged the deteriorating ties in an press meeting saying that it “had met with some setbacks” in recent years.

"China and India relations have encountered some setbacks in recent years which do not serve the fundamental interests of the two countries and the two peoples," said Wang Yi as reported by PTI.

"As regards the boundary question, it is left over from history. China has all along advocated managing differences through equal footing consultation and actively seeking a fair and equitable settlement and meanwhile not letting it affect or interfere with the bigger picture of bilateral cooperation," he said.

China and India should be "partners rather than rivals," Wang added.

"More and more people have come to realise that for China and India, both major countries with a population of over one billion, only by staying independent can we firmly grasp our own destiny and realise our goals of development and rejuvenation," said the Chinese Foreign Minister.

After Beijing violated agreements not to bring military forces to the border, the External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during last month had said that India’s relationship with China is right now going through a “very difficult phase.”
