'Unfair' For Class 12 Students To Be Under Pressure: Congress Demands Cancellation Like CBSE Class 10

CBSE Class 12 Board Exams: “Glad the government has finally cancelled the 10th standard exams however a final decision MUST be taken for the 12th grade too,” Priyanka Gandhi tweeted.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday welcomed the Centre’s decision to cancel the CBSE Class 10 board exams and demanded a final decision must be taken for Class 12th too.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in a tweet said “keeping students under undue pressure until June makes no sense” and is “unfair”. The Congress leader urged the ruling dispensation to call off the Class 12 exams as well amid the spike in Covid-19 cases in the country.

The Congress leader’s remarks came as the Union Education Ministry earlier in the day cancelled the CBSE Class 10 board exams and postponed the Class 12 exams, which were to be held from May 4 to June 14, following a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to review the examinations to be held at various levels in view of the developing Corona situation.

The Prime Minister during the meeting reiterated that the students’ well-being of the students has to be the government’s top priority.  He also stated that the Centre would keep in mind the best interests of the students and ensure that their health is taken care of at the same time their academic interests are not harmed.

In tune with the same, the Union Education Ministry said the situation will be reviewed by the Board on June 1 with regard to Class 12 exams and details will be shared subsequently.

“A notice of at least 15 days will be given before the start of the examinations,” the ministry added.

With regard to Class 10, the Education Ministry said the results will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion to be developed by the Board.

“Any candidate who is not satisfied with the marks allocated to him/her on this basis will be given an opportunity to sit in an exam as and when the conditions are conducive to hold the exams,” the ministry added.

The Class 10 and 12 exams were earlier scheduled to start from May 4.
