Bengal Violence Probe: 'Is It Right For State Govt To Rape Women, Kill People?', BJP Slams TMC

Union Minister Smriti Irani said that the Kolkata High Court verdict is a message to the families of our departed workers that justice would be served soon.

Bengal Post-Poll Violence: In a setback to the state government, the Kolkata High Court on Thursday ordered a CBI probe into the violence that erupted after the West Bengal assembly elections. It has been asked to conduct the inquiry under the supervision of the court. While the BJP is attacking the Mamata Banerjee government by calling the Kolkata High Court's decision, the first step towards justice, the TMC said it will reduce the powers of the state government.

Smriti Irani Attacks Mamata Govt

Union Minister Smriti Irani said that the Kolkata High Court verdict is a message to the families of our departed workers that justice would be served soon. TMC workers raped female party workers from BJP. Taking a jibe at TMC, Smriti Irani asked, "Is it the right of the state government to rape women and kill people? Is it the right of the state government to loot, burn the houses of BJP workers and make them homeless in their own country? Is it their fault that they support BJP?"

"What 'Khela' has TMC done? Rape, murder is their 'Khela'. TMC will now officially celebrate the rape of women. This is Mamata Banerjee's politics," Irani said in regards to the 'Khela Hobe' Diwas in West Bengal.

TMC Govt Wants to Hide Violence: Suvendu Adhikari

Following the Kolkata High Court verdict, BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari said the court's decision has nullified all statements from the Chief Minister and the state government. "This proved that the state government wants to hide this violence to serve its political purpose. Political violence in Bengal should end permanently," he said.

Adhikari also said that HC's decision is the victory of humanity. "The way the judiciary came forward and ordered an investigation into the violation of human rights after the elections is a victory for democracy. It should be welcomed irrespective of what party we belong to," he added.

Meanwhile, BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya said that victims have been served their expected justice. He said that Bengal is being ruled by a dictatorship and not by democracy. "Bureaucracy, politics and mafia were working together. The court's decision has hurt this nexus too," he said.

TMC Dissapointed

On the other hand, Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy expressed disappointment over the court's decision. He said, “Law and order in the state is working fine. CBI's involvement would undermine the authority of the state government. Hence, we are against the probe. I think the state government will consider it and appeal against it."
