'Dubai Didi': Nishikant Dubey Mocks Mahua Moitra After She Seeks Bizman's Questioning In 'Cash-For-Query' Case

Nishikant Dubey cited the rule book guiding the affairs of the Lok Sabha to say that witnesses in such matters are protected from court or legal proceedings.

New Delhi: Amid the ‘cash for query’ row and the summons issued to TMC leader Mahua Moitra by the Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha for questioning in this connection on October 31, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Friday called her “Dubai Didi”, a mocking reference to her alleged links with Dubai-based businessman Darshan Hiranandani.

In a series of posts on social media targeting the TMC MP, he said every member of Parliament has to mandatorily enter into an agreement with the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to keep their login credentials ‘confidential’.

Taking to his official handle on X, the BJP MP posted, “When a member is assigned a parliament email ID or a member portal, he or she has to reach an agreement with the NIC, which states specifically that the email ID and password should be kept confidential and not shared with anyone. I signed the agreement after a careful study of the contents of the same. Did the degree-holder (Mahua Moitra) not do likewise or did she willfully sell the country’s security for a few bucks?”

On the TMC leader reportedly demanding a “cross examination” of the witnesses in the matter, the BJP MP cited the rule book guiding the affairs of the Lok Sabha to say that witnesses in such matters are protected from court or legal proceedings.

“Dubai Didi (a dig at Moitra’s alleged links to Dubai-based businessman Darshan Hiranandani) has sought cross-examination of the witnesses in the matter. She is, perhaps, not aware that under the Lok Sabha rules, especially page 246 of the Kaul-Shakdher book (Practice and Procedure of Parliament), witnesses, in such matters, are protected from court or legal proceedings. It seems our rules and conventions on the conduct of members in Parliament don’t matter and only what Dubai Didi says does. She should clarify and come clean on questions pertaining to impropriety and national security instead of indulging in political muck-raking,” the BJP MP posted.

Taking a dig at the TMC MP for misspelling his surname ‘Dubey’ as ‘Dubai’ in a letter to the chairman of the Lok Sabha’s ethics committee, the BJP MP posted, “The accused MP seems so addicted with Dubai that she even misspelled my surname as ‘Dubai’ in a letter to the chairman of the ethics committee. This only goes to show her state of mind and my misfortune.”

Notably, earlier in the day, the TMC leader wrote to the Lok Sabha Ethic Committee saying she won’t be able to appear before the panel on October 31 as she had pre-scheduled programmes in her constituency.

"Chairman, Ethics Comm announced my 31/10 summons on live TV way before official letter emailed to me at 19:20 hrs. All complaints & suo moto affidavits also released to media.  I look forward to deposing immediately after my pre- scheduled constituency programmes end on Nov 4," she wrote.
