'Case Of Contempt': BJP MP Seeks Action Against Rahul Gandhi For 'Derogatory' Remarks On PM Modi

Dubey said Rahul Gandhi's statements were "misleading, derogatory and indecent".

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey on Wednesday wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker to move a breach of privilege motion notice against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Lok Sabha over his links with billionaire Gautam Adani.

He said Rahul Gandhi's statements were "misleading, derogatory and indecent".

Dubey in his letter accused Rahul Gandhi of violating rules by "misleading the house" and accusing PM Modi of crony capitalism without "documentary evidence".

"While participating in the debate on Motion of Thanks to the President's Address in Lok Sabha, Shri Rahul Gandhi, MP made certain unverified, incriminatory and defamatory statements... against Prime Minister without giving advance notice," Dubey wrote in his letter.

"These statements are misleading, derogatory, indecent, unparliamentary, undignified and incriminatory in nature to the dignity of the House and Hon'ble Prime Minister being a Member of Lok Sabha," he said.

"Rahul Gandhi... has not submitted any duly authenticated document for supporting his statements. As such, he has made a statement which amounts to misleading of the House in the absence of any documentary evidence," Dubey wrote.

Dubey stated that Gandhi's conduct was in clear violation of the privileges of the House and its members, besides being a clear case of contempt of the House.

He further requested the Speaker to take immediate action against the Congress leader for breach of privilege and contempt of House.

On Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi launched a strong attack on the government in the wake of the Hiendenberg-Adani row linking the rise of the Adani group to that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and alleging that "rules were changed" in some sectors to favour the businessman.

Hitting out at the government, Gandhi said that the rise in Gautam Adani's fortunes happened after the BJP came to power in 2014.
