'Can Live With His Mother Or Come To Me...": Mallikarjun Kharge On Rahul Gandhi Bungalow Row

New Delhi: Responding to the notice sent to Rahul Gandhi asking him to vacate his official bungalow, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday said that the government is making all attempts to weaken the Congress leader, adding that even if he vacates the bungalow, he will stay with his mother, or Kharge himself would vacate one for him. 

He criticized the government's behavior of using scare tactics, threats, and humiliation to suppress Gandhi and condemned this attitude, and stressed that it is not the right way to treat people.

"They will make all attempts to weaken him (Rahul Gandhi) but if he vacates the bungalow, he'll go live with his mother or he can come to me & I'll vacate one. I condemn the attitude of Govt to scare, threaten & humiliate him. This isn't the way. Sometimes, we've been without a bungalow for 3-4 months. I received my bungalow after 6 months. People do this to humiliate others. I condemn such an attitude," Kharge told ANI.

 

His comment came after the Lok Sabha Housing Committee on Monday issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi asking him to vacate his official bungalow by April 22.

Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as a Lok Sabha MP last week which was followed by huge protests by the Congress party. A Surat court on Thursday last week pronounced two years of jail for the party leader in the four-year-old criminal case over the 'Modi surname' remark. 

On Monday, a number of opposition MPs marched from parliament to Vijay Chowk in black to express their displeasure with the government and Rahul Gandhi's disqualification from the Lok Sabha.

Sonia Gandhi, a Congress MP, and Mallikarjun Kharge, the party chief, were among the protesters who gathered near the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Parliament complex and chanted anti-government slogans.

The MPs moved toward Vijay Chowk, where they held a sit-in, carrying large banners with the words "Satyamev Jayate" and "save democracy" written on them.
