Pregnant Wife Of Captured Bengal BSF Jawan Awaits His Return From Pakistan As Op Sindoor Mounts Tension

BSF jawan Purnamakumar Shaw has been in Pakistani custody for over 15 days. His pregnant wife is moving from pillar to post, pleading for help as border tensions rise after Operation Sindoor.

It's been over two weeks since BSF jawan Purnam Shaw from Rishra, West Bengal, has been in Pakistan's custody. Sahu was captured by Pakistan Rangers while discharging his duty along the Firozpur border. His release now seems increasingly uncertain as India-Pakistan tensions escalate following Operation Sindoor.

On Wednesday, India destroyed 9 terror camps of 21 identified ones in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The attacks were carried out using aerial strikes and artillery firing.

The mounting strain between the two nations has only deepened the anxiety for Shaw's family. His wife, Rajani Shaw, voiced her growing fears: "This has become even scarier. It was already difficult to get him released; and now things have worsened. We had some hope earlier. But after this [Operation Sindoor], his release seems impossible. A senior officer visited us yesterday. I requested to meet our Chief Minister, even if for 10 minutes, to share our concerns and seek help."

Despite multiple flag meetings between India and Pakistan, no positive signal has come from Islamabad regarding Purnamkumar's release.

Last week, Rajani, who is currently pregnant, travelled to Pathankot with her son and other relatives. They met the Commanding Officer of the BSF's 24th Battalion, who assured them that all efforts are underway to bring Purnamkumar back. The family was urged to remain patient for a few more days.

While the uncertainty persists, there's a sliver of hope: the reported detention of a Pakistani Ranger by Indian forces. The family believes this development might open a path to a possible exchange. "I'm satisfied and hopeful," Rajani said after returning from Pathankot. "BSF officials told us discussions are ongoing. They promised to bring my husband back."
