Amit Shah To Chair Southern Zonal Council Meet In Kerala Today
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a meeting of the Southern Zonal Council in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala toda where issues like sharing of river water, coastal security, connectivity and other issues of common interests will be discussed, officials told news agency PTI on Friday.
The Southern Zonal Council comprises Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
The meeting will be attended by chief ministers, ministers, chief secretaries, principal secretaries and senior officers of the member states and senior officers of central government, a home ministry official said.
Ex-President Gotabaya Rajapaksa To Return To Sri Lanka Today
Former Sri Lankan president Gotabaya Rajapaksa will return to the country from Thailand on Saturday, official sources confirmed on Friday, nearly two months after he fled the country following a massive uprising against his government over the island nation’s worst-ever economic crisis.
Rajapaksa, 73, fled the country on July 13 after months-long mass public demonstrations demanding his immediate resignation on July 9 gained momentum after protesters stormed the President’s House in Colombo and several other state buildings in the capital. Rajapaksa is to return to Sri Lanka in the early hours today, official sources told PTI.
Assam: Major Eviction Drive Today To Clear 330 Acres Of Land
The Assam government is all set to carry out a major eviction drive in Sonitpur district on Saturday to clear encroachments from 330 acres of land, a senior official said. The drive will be carried out at No. 3 Chitalmari area in Barchalla assembly constituency, currently represented by BJP MLA Ganesh Kumar Limbu, along the northern bank of Brahmaputra River.
"We are ready to carry out the eviction drive from tomorrow morning. All the necessary formalities have been completed and around 1,000 security personnel have arrived for operation," a senior official of the Sonitpur district administration told PTI on condition of anonymity.

ED Raids Paytm, Razorpay, Cashfree In Probe Against 'Illegal' Chinese Loan Apps Case
The Enforcement Directorate Saturday said it is conducting raids at Bengaluru premises of online payment gateways like Razorpay, Paytm and Cashfree as part of an ongoing probe against "illegal" instant smartphone-based loans "controlled" by Chinese persons.
The searches were launched Friday at six premises in Karnataka's capital city, it said in a statement. The search operation is in progress, the Enforcement Directorate said.
The federal probe agency said it has seized Rs 17 crore worth funds kept in "merchant IDs and bank accounts of these Chinese persons-controlled entities", during the raids.
UP: Three Killed In Head-On Collision Between Motorcycle, Truck Near Sonbhadra
Three people, including a woman, were killed here on Saturday after the motorcycle they were travelling on collided head-on with a speeding truck, news agency PTI reported quoting police officials.
The accident occurred near Chaupania village under the Chopan police station area, they said.
