J&K: 5 Soldiers Martyred During Fierce Encounter With Terrorists In Poonch District
5 soldiers have lost their lives during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri today.
New Delhi: An encounter is underway between the security forces and terrorists in the Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir. According to inputs received by ABP News, a junior commissioned officer (JCO) and four soldiers have been martyred in action during the counter-terrorist operation in the Pir Panjal ranges.
According to sources, the Indian Army on the basis of intelligence inputs in villages close to Dera Ki Gali (DKG) in Surankote jurisdiction of Poonch was informed that 3 terrorists were hiding in the Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir after which a cordon and search operation was launched resulting in a fierce battle with terrorists, as reported by ANI.
The Defence PRO of Jammu released an official statementnt, "One JCO and 4 jawans of Indian Army sustained critical injuries during the anti-terror operation in Poonch, J&K today. They were rushed to the nearest medical facility where they succumbed to injuries.."
Earlier today, security forces eliminated two terrorists in a separate encounter. One of the terrorists who was involved in the recent attacks on civilians at Shahgund has been gunned down by the security forces in an encounter in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir, the police said on Monday.
According to ANI, the terrorist has been identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Dar affiliated with proscribed terror outfit LeT (TRF). He was involved in the recent civilian killing at Shahgund Bandipora said IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar.
Last week, an unidentified terrorist was neutralised by the security forces in the Anantnag district of Jammu & Kashmir. A policeman also suffered injuries during the encounter.
Earlier on Tuesday, three civilians were killed by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir in separate incidents. Terrorists fired at a man identified as Mohd Shafi Lone in the Shahgund area of Bandipora. Lone was a resident of Naidkhai, police said. Also on Thursday, two government teachers including Supinder Kaur from Srinagar and Chand from Jammu were killed in the union territory.
