The incident comes days after Punjab's Tarn Taran Sarhali Police Station was hit by a probable rocket-propelled grenade (RPG). Eight persons, including the Station Head Official (SHO), were present at the police station at the time of the attack.
However, no injuries were reported in the incident. The ammunition was powerful but it rebounded after hitting the wall of the police station. Punjab Police later said the RPG used in the attack was smuggled from Pakistan.
This was the second attack with a rocket launcher in the state. On May 8, Punjab Police Intelligence's headquarters was attacked in a similar manner, allegedly on the instructions of gangsters Lakhbir Singh Landa and Harvinder Singh Rinda.
On March 9, this year, a police post at Kalma Morh in Ropar on the Nurpur Bedi-Nangal road was attacked. In November last year, a grenade was hurled at the main gate of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) office at Nawanshahr.
Days later, another grenade was thrown by motorcycle-borne persons near the Triveni gate of the Army's cantonment in Pathankot.
