BMC Election 2022: Helpline To Be Announced Before Polls, Each Ward To Get A Separate Number

BMC Helpline: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is launching a ward-wise helpline number to help citizens register civic complaints.

BMC Helpline: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is launching a ward-wise helpline number to help citizens register civic complaints and to assist them in resolving issues pertaining to their local areas. Helpline numbers will be issued for each of the 24 wards once the current tenure of the elected corporators ends on March 7.

A BMC official said: "People can call and register their complaints. Apart from this, the existing helpline number 1916 can be used for citizen complaints."

"Usually, citizens will approach their local corporators for help on issues. Local corporators act as a point of contact between the BMC administration and the citizens. They help solve issues like waste management, sewage, water supply, and encroachments. Though the councilors will remain active even after their terms are over, the helpline will directly address civic issues," the BMC official added. 

BMC elections are expected to be held in mid-April. The process of finalising the boundaries of the ward is in the final stages as a public hearing on the draft ward boundaries was held recently. A senior BMC official said the tenure of the councilors will end on March 7 and they will no longer work as trustees of the municipal corporation.

Meanwhile, a law officer of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has filed a case on behalf of the civic body with Azad Maidan police station against a person who tweeted that civic chief Iqbal Singh Chahal was to be probed by the Income Tax department for irregularities.

Sumeet Thakkar had tweeted at 5.07 pm on Friday that Chahal would be probed by the IT department in the case involving BMC standing committee chairman Yashwant Jadhav, civic officials said, adding that this information was completely false and malicious.
