BJP Works For 'Sabka Vikas', Others Work For 'Parivar Ka Swarth': PM Modi's Dig At Oppn In Himachal's Mandi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of hydropower projects worth over Rs 11,000 crores in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi.

New Delhi: On his visit to Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated hydropower projects worth over Rs 11,000 crores. He laid the foundation stone for the Renukaji Dam project which was pending for nearly three decades. 

The 40 MW project will be built at a cost of Rs 7,000 crore and is supposed to substantially add to the water supply in the national capital Delhi. The project has only become a reality after bringing six states together as per the vision of cooperative federalism.

He also laid the foundations for the Luhri Stage 1 Hydropower project and the Dhaulasidh Hydro Power Project which will be built at a cost of Rs 1,800 crores and Rs 680 crores respectively. 

He also inaugurated the Sawra-Kuddu Hydropower project which has been built at a cost of Rs 2080 crores. The project is supposed to generate 380 million units of electricity which would earn annual revenue of Rs 120 crores.

Prior to this, he had also presided over the second groundbreaking ceremony of the Himachal Pradesh Global Investors’ Meet which is expected to boost the investments in the region through the start of projects worth Rs 28,000 crores.

After inaugurating the projects, PM Modi addressed the event. Here are some key highlights of his speech:

  • PM Modi hailed Himachal Pradesh CM Jairam Thakur and said that Jairam's hardworking team left no stone unturned to fulfill the dreams of the people of Himachal. He said, "the Himachal Pradesh govt has completed four years. During its tenure, the government fought against COVID19 and also made sure that development works in the state do not stop."
  • The Prime Minister further said that when the Renukaji Dam project on the Giri river is completed, a large area will be directly benefited by it and whatever income will be generated from this project, a large part of it will also be spent on the development of the state.
  • Talking about the efforts made by the central and state government towards saving the environment, PM Modi said, "Our government is alert about the damage caused to the mountains due to plastic. Along with the nationwide campaign against single-use plastic, our government is also working on plastic waste management."
  • PM Modi revealed that India had set a target in 2016 to meet 40 percent of its installed electricity capacity requirement from non-fossil energy sources by 2030 and now every Indian will be proud to know that India has achieved this goal in November this year itself.
  • Praising the state, PM Modi said that Himachal Pradesh is one of the most important pharma hubs in the country. During COVID19, the State has not only helped other States but also many countries.
  • Taking a jibe at opposition parties over dynasty politics, PM Modi said, "There are two development models in the State. One is 'Sabka saath, Sabka vikas & Sabka vishwas'. The other model is 'Khud ka swarth, parivaar ka swarth'. Himachal Pradesh govt is working on the first model and has implemented many development programs in the state."
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi further said that the central government has announced COVID19 vaccination for 15-18-year-olds from January 3, 2022, and 'precaution dose' for healthcare workers and senior citizens with comorbidities from January 10. He said that he is confident that Himachal Pradesh will lead in achieving vaccination coverage.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur was also present during the event and said, "PM Modi has given a lot to Himachal Pradesh. Under his leadership, AIIMS, PGI, and many hospitals have been established in the State...Today, I congratulate CM Jairam Thakur on completing four years of government."

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur who was present during the event said, "PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the Atal Tunnel, Rohtang in 2020. This tunnel has not only helped the locals but also attracted many tourists to the State."

Thakur further said that Mandi is called 'Chhoti Kashi', as there are more than 300 ancient temples here and the state government is also trying to develop Mandi on the same lines as UP's 'Kashi'
