BJP Legislature Party Meet To Select New Goa CM To Take Place On Monday: Sawant

Pramod Sawant stated that Bharatiya Janata Party observers will travel to Goa on Monday to attend the Legislature Party meeting.

New Delhi: Pramod Sawant, Goa's interim Chief Minister, announced on Sunday that the decision on the swearing-in ceremony will be made during the Legislature Party meeting tomorrow evening.

He stated that Bharatiya Janata Party observers will travel to Goa on Monday to attend the Legislature Party meeting, news agency ANI reported.

"I went to Delhi yesterday, BJP observers will be coming in Panaji tomorrow for the Legislature Party meeting. The decision about the swearing-in ceremony will also be taken in the evening tomorrow,"  Sawant informed ANI.

"BJP will stake claim and approach Governor to form the next government tomorrow after the legislative party meeting," he said.

On Saturday night, BJP leader Pramod Sawant met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The meeting is significant since the BJP has yet to name Goa's next Chief Minister.

The next Chief Minister's name will be unveiled in the BJP's state legislature party meeting following the selection of Union Ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and L Murugan as the central observer and co-observer for Goa by the BJP Parliamentary Board.

The BJP emerged as the single largest party in Goa in the recently concluded state Assembly elections, garnering 20 seats in the 40-member state Assembly and reducing the Congress to 11 seats. The BJP fell one seat shy of a majority in Goa but is poised to maintain power with the aid of Maharashtrawadi Gomantak (MGP) and independent candidates.
