BJP Dismisses Sindoor Campaign Reports As Fake, Slams Mamata Banerjee Over ‘PM Modi Husband’ Remark

The party also dismissed as false a media report claiming that the BJP intended to distribute vermilion (sindoor) to women in celebration of the Modi government's anniversary.

The BJP on Friday condemned the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, for her remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that no politician should use such language.

The party also dismissed as false a media report claiming that the BJP intended to distribute vermilion (sindoor) to women in celebration of the Modi government's anniversary.

BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra told news agency PTI, "Mamata Banerjee has said what should never be spoken. No politician or elected representative should use a language... (she said) 'Is PM Modi the husband of every woman?' What kind of language is this?" But yes, Modi is a "sewak" (servant) to everyone; he is like a father to some and a brother to others."

Critising the Trinamool Congress supremo, Patra said, "There is no doubt, however, that if someone has worked to shelter Bangladeshi infiltrators and Rohingyas, it is Mamata Banerjee. They are fond of her."

BJP Calls Report 'Fake News'

BJP MP from Puri labeled the report as “fake news” and accused opposition parties of using it to attack the BJP, alleging they were attempting to politicize Operation Sindoor and undermine India’s military action against Pakistan and terror camps.

On Thursday, West Bengal CM, Mamata Banerjee, hit back at Modi after the prime minister launched a political attack on her government. "Please remember, every woman has respect, they accept sindoor only from her husband... The way you are talking... you are not the husband of everybody; why are you not giving sindoor to your Mrs first?" Banerjee said.

Banerjee added that she is not interested in going into such details but claimed that she was forced to do so. "The Centre named it Operation Sindoor for political gains ahead of upcoming elections (in various states)," she alleged.

"First, he (Modi) used to call himself a tea-seller, then a chowkidar, and now he has come to sell sindoor. He cannot sell sindoor like this," Mamata Banerjee said, and drew sharp criticism from the BJP over her remarks.

Amit Malviya, head of the BJP’s IT department, dismissed the news report as “fake” and criticised the West Bengal Chief Minister for behaving like a troll by leveraging an unfounded story for political gains.

Meanwhile, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate alleged that the BJP was compelled to scrap its campaign following public backlash. Reacting to Malviya's statement, she said in a post on X, "Now they are calling the cheap plan fake news."
