BJP And PM Modi Think We Are Weak But We Will Give Befitting Reply: Kharge At Congress 'Sankalp Satyagraha'

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday said that if someone tries to crush them with arrogance, they will give a befitting reply to them

Congress Sankalp Satyagraha: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday said that if someone tries to crush them with arrogance, they will give a befitting reply to them. Addressing party workers at Rajghat where Congress is observing the 'Sankalp Satyagraha', he said that Rahul Gandhi is fighting for the common people.

The senior leader said, "BJP government and Modi ji think we are weak...but they should know that if someone tries to crush us with arrogance, we will give a befitting reply to them."

On organising 'Satyagraha', Kharge added, "This Satyagraha is just for today but such Satyagrahas will be done across the country... Rahul Gandhi is fighting for the common people. The statement (Modi surname) was given by Rahul Gandhi in Karnataka but the case was transferred to Gujarat. BJP did not have the power to file the defamation case in Karnataka."

Kharge said that Rahul Gandhi is fighting for the people of this country. Addressing workers, he added, "Rahul Gandhi is fighting for you, for the women, for the youth. He is fighting against unemployment and inflation."

On the other hand, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday changed his Twitter bio to "Dis'qualified MP" after his removal from Lok Sabha following conviction in the 2019 defamation case. A Surat court on Thursday last week pronounced two years of jail for the party leader in the four-year old criminal case and was next day disqualified from his membership in Lok Sabha.

"This is the official account of Rahul Gandhi | Member of the Indian National Congress | Dis’Qualified MP," reads the updated Twitter bio of the former Wayanad MP.

The Congress said that Rahul Gandhi's conviction in the defamation case and his disqualification from Lok Sabha, which it alleged was done in reaction to his consistently questioning the relationship between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and businessman Gautam Adani, poses a serious threat to India’s democracy.

Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as a Member of Lok Sabha from the date of his conviction in the criminal defamation case over his 'Modi surname' remark i.e. March 23. The Lok Sabha Secretariat issued a notification on Friday in this regard.

"Consequent upon his conviction by the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Surat in C.C./18712/2019, Shri Rahul Gandhi, Member of Lok Sabha representing the Wayanad Parliamentary Constituency of Kerala stands disqualified from the membership of Lok Sabha from the date of his conviction i.e. 23 March, 2023 in terms of the provisions of Article 102(1)(e) of the Constitution of India read with Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951," the notification by the Lok Sabha Secretariat reads.
