Lockdown In Bihar? CM Nitish Kumar Says Situation Is Not Such That Everything Should Be Closed

New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that the decision regarding lockdown or covid restriction will be taken after the meeting to be held on Tuesday as the state is witnessing a rapid rise in Covid-19 cases. 

The increasing number of Corona patients in the state has raised concerns for the government and officials of the health department. In such a situation, there are fears that the state will implement strict measures to control the situation.

Will lockdown be implemented in Bihar?

While responding to the questions on restrictions in the state, Kumar on Monday told reporters that the decision on the lockdown will be held after the crucial meeting.   

"Such a situation has not arisen in Bihar that everything should be closed. But in the meeting, a decision will be taken after assessing the situation. The decision will be based on reviewing the current situation which will be effective only for a week or five days," the chief minister said.

The health department has said that Patna district is bearing the brunt of the current spike in coronavirus cases, according to PTI.

Around 160 people have been tested positive, six of whom were citizens who had come to attend Janata Ke Durbar Mein Mukhyamantri, besides a staff member involved in catering services at the chief minister's secretariat, as per the PTI report.

The district now accounts for 698 active cases, more than half of the state's figure.

Patna is followed by Gaya which has an active caseload of 365 and where the number of fresh cases was 88, including former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and 17 of his family members and personal staff.

However, the state has not yet reported any Covid death for about a week. Altogether 7,27,872 people have caught the infection so far , out of whom 7,14,391 have recovered while 12,096 have died. A high testing rate has been maintained by way of abundant caution. The number of samples examined in the last 24 hours is more than one lakh.

The day also saw the state's first genome sequencing facility getting operational at the IGIMS hospital which is expected to help timely detection of Omicron.
