New Delhi: An explosion in Tatarpur police jurisdiction in Bihar's Bhagalpur district on Friday claimed the lives of seven people while several others were injured.

Neigbouring houses have also sustained damage in the incident.

Seven people died while several others were injured in an explosion in Tatarpur police jurisdiction in Bhagalpur district, news agency ANI reported District Administration as informing.

Bhagalpur District Magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen informed "prima facie it is coming to light that the family was involved in making firecrackers."

"2-3 houses damaged. We are further investigating the matter," he stated.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and wrote that "the news about loss of life due to an explosion in Bihar's Bhagalpur is painful. I wish the injured a speedy recovery."

He informed that he spoke to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar about the incident.

"I spoke with CM Nitish Kumar regarding the incident. The Administration is engaged in relief and rescue operations. All possible assistance is being provided to the victims," PM Modi wrote.

More details about the incident are awaited.
