Bihar: Nitish Kumar's JDU To Chair National Executive Meet On August 29 To Discuss Political Situation

The newly formed 'Mahagathbandhan' government in Bihar will go for a floor test on August 24 to prove its majority in the state assembly.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal United (JDU) will hold its national executive meeting on August 29 to discuss the ongoing political situation in the state. Though there has been no official confirmation of the meeting but it is likely to take place in the national capital. The newly formed 'Mahagathbandhan' government in Bihar will go for a floor test on August 24 to prove its majority in the state assembly.

Nitsh Kumar took oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar for record eighth time last week after he snapped ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA and joined hands with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) to form government in the state.

In his new government, RJD leader and Lalu Prasad Yadav's son Tejashwi Yadav took oath as Deputy Chief Minister.

The decision to hold the floor test on August 24 and make a suitable recommendation for convening state assembly was taken at a cabinet meeting attended by Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav.

The Mahagathbandhan or Grand Alliance has the support of 164 members in the assembly. Grand Alliance also has the support of Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), which has four MLAs in the Assembly.

In the cabinet expansion which took place on August 16, Nitish Kumar kept his previous portfolios including home ministry, general administration, cabinet secretariat, vigilance with himself, while the health ministry was given to his deputy Tejashwi, along with road construction, urban development and housing and rural development.

The portfolios of ministers under the JDU quota are almost the same as earlier except that Vijay Kumar Chaudhary got the finance ministry, earlier held by Tar Kishore Prasad during the NDA government.
