New Delhi: As the voting for the second phase of the Bihar municipal election is underway, a scuffle between the supporters of two candidates of local body polls has been reported in the Patel Nagar area of Nalanda district, news agency ANI reported.

According to the reports, the police officials have managed to control the situation.

The video shared by ANI showed a scuffle and firing between two groups in Nalanda after which the police reached the spot.

"We've reached the spot & controlled the situation, some elements were trying to jeopardise peace. Polling is being done peacefully," ANI quoted Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sadar, Nalanda as saying.

 

Security has been beefed up across the state as polling is being held in the 1,529 wards of 68 urban local bodies across 23 districts of Bihar.

 

Armed policemen and mobile squads have been deployed at every booth while paramilitary forces will patrol sensitive pockets in the districts. 

 

Voting is being done across 17 municipal corporations including Patna, 2 Municipal Councils, and 49 Nagar Panchayats in a total of 68 cities of 23 districts of Bihar. The voting will continue till 5 PM.

In this phase, the fate of 11,127 candidates for Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Chief Councillor, Ward Councilor, and 1665 other posts will be sealed in EVMs. The counting of votes for the second phase of the municipal elections will be held on Friday and then the results will be released on the same day.

The first phase of the polls was held on 18th December for 156 municipal corporation wards. The results were declared on December 20.
