Bihar Govt’s Action Appalling: Andhra IAS Association Raises Objection Over Release Of Anand Mohan Singh
The Andhra IAS Association raised objection against release of Anand Mohan Singh and appealed Bihar government to reconsider its decision.
The Indian Administrative Association of Andhra Pradesh has raised “strong objection” against the decision of the Bihar government to release Anand Mohan Singh convicted for killing Gopalganj District Magistrate G Krishnaiah. The gangster-turned-politician was serving a life sentence in the 1994 murder case.
The Bihar government had recently amended the prison rules allowing the release of 27 convicts including the former MP.
“The IAS association of Andhra Pradesh expresses strong objection at the decision of the State government of Bihar to release the convicts of the brutal killing of late Sri G Krishnaiah IAS, former District Magistrate of Gopalganj. Born in the state of Andhra Pradesh in a humble family, Sri Krishnaiah became an IAS officer by dint of his grit and determination and was allotted to Bihar Cadre. As an IAS officer, Sri Krishnaiah always took decisions in favour for the poor and downtrodden. Even on the day when he was brutally killed, he was trying to safeguard his body guard from the mob,” read the statement by the IAS Association.

“We strongly appeal to the State Government to reconsider its decision at the earliest in the interest of the nation,” it added.
G Krishnaiah, the then District Magistrate of Gopalganj, was assassinated by a mob allegedly provoked by Anand Mohan Singh. A lower court in Bihar sentenced the gangster-turned-politician to death in 2007. However, the Patna High Court commuted it to life imprisonment, which was upheld by the Supreme Court in 2012.
Reacting to the development, the widow of the slain IAS officer, Uma Devi said that releasing Anand Mohan from jail was a bad decision.
"Public will protest against the release of Anand Mohan, demanding to send him back to jail. Releasing him is a wrong decision. CM should not encourage these types of things. If he (Anand Mohan) will contest elections in the future the public should boycott him. I appeal to send him (Anand Mohan) back to jail."
"I appeal to the President and the PM to intervene in this matter and ask CM Nitish Kumar to send him (Anand Mohan) back to jail...," she added.
