Bengaluru Doctor Who Recovered From Omicron Tests Positive For Covid-19 Again

Meanwhile, police have registered a case against the South African national infected with Omicron who left the country without informing the authorities.

New Delhi: A Bengaluru doctor, one of the two earliest cases of Omicron variant to be detected in India, has tested positive for Covid-19 again. 

The doctor is under isolation and has mild symptoms. "It is true that the doctor who was infected with Omicron variant has once again tested positive for Covid-19," a Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) official said.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case against the South African national infected with Omicron who left the country without informing the authorities.

BBMP Medical Officer at Shivajinagar, Dr Naveen Kumar, had lodged a complaint at High Grounds police station in Bengaluru in this connection, IANS reported.

The management and staff of a five-star hotel have also been booked for allowing the South African national to leave without informing the health officials.

They have been booked under various sections of the IPC and the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Act, 2020, police sources said.

The 66-year-old left India within seven days of testing positive by obtaining a negative Covid test report from a private lab.

The South African traveller, who arrived in Bengaluru on November 20, tested positive at the airport and was quarantined at a five-star hotel. On November 23, he purportedly obtained a negative Covid test report from a private lab. He returned to South Africa, via Dubai, on November 27.

What is the status of coronavirus in the country?

The country has reported 6,822 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, 220 people died. So far, 23 cases of Omicron variant have been reported in the country. The number of active cases in the country is 95,014. 

On the other hand, the number of people who lost their lives due to this pandemic has increased to 4,73,757. According to the statistics, 10,004 recovery happened yesterday, after which 3,40,79,612 people have been infection free so far.
