Massive Fire Erupts At Oil Facility Near Bengaluru, Black Smoke Billows — Video

The blaze at oil facility near Bengaluru engulfed a warehouse spanning 40,000 square feet within a 5.5-acre compound, prompting a large-scale emergency response.

A major fire broke out in the early hours of Tuesday at an oil and grease storage godown rented by Shell in Edakemarnahalli village, located in Nelamangala on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The blaze engulfed a warehouse spanning 40,000 square feet within a 5.5-acre compound, prompting a large-scale emergency response.

The fire department received an alert at 3:35 am, after which 10 fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the site. As the situation escalated, the number of firefighting units on the ground increased to 22, according to officials.

"Fire-fighting operations are underway. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained," he added, as per a report on PTI.

The Superintendent of Police, Bengaluru Rural, stated that the godown was being used for the storage of oil and grease by a Shell-affiliated company. Emergency teams are working continuously to bring the situation under control.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and authorities have launched an investigation. Given the scale and nature of the materials stored, the risk of re-ignition remains a concern.

According to the company, as per PTI,"A fire occurred at a third-party shared warehouse operated by Toll Logistics on Tumkur Highway in Karnataka. This facility, which is not owned or operated by Shell, is used for the storage of lubricant products. We understand that there have been no casualties. Emergency services are currently on site, and efforts are actively underway to contain the situation."

"We are working closely with Toll Logistics and local authorities to manage the incident and ensure the area is secured," the statement said.
