Assam-Mizoram Border Dispute: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi today over the border dispute with Mizoram.

New Delhi: The exercise to resolve the ongoing border dispute between Assam and Mizoram has intensified. For that reason, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. BJP MPs from Assam will also be present during the meeting. CM Himanta had also met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday over the border dispute.

Earlier, Assam Chief Minister had said: "We have lost precious lives during the violence, but we have to move on the path of peace and progress. We are committed to protecting constitutional boundaries, but I would appeal to my people to allow Mizoram goods to move.''

Truck Movement Resumes On Disputed Border

Trucks from the rest of the country were able to enter Mizoram across the disputed border with neighbouring Assam on Sunday, 13 days after a bloody clash between Assam and Mizoram police forces. Truck drivers had parked their trucks in Dholai near the border. They have refused to move even after the informal blockade imposed by locals was lifted.

The ministers of Assam and Mizoram had agreed to resolve the border dispute by amicably resolving differences after meeting last week.

Violent Clashes In July

At least six Assam Police personnel and a civilian were killed and more than 50 injured in a violent clash between police in the two states on July 26. The two states share a 164.6 km border between the Cachar, Hailakandi, and Karimganj districts of Assam and Kolasib, Mamit and Aizawl districts of Mizoram.
