Assam CM Announces Withdrawal Of All Covid Restrictions, No Curfew From Feb 15

“There will be no curfew in Assam from February 15th and all COVID-19 restrictions are hereby withdrawn,” ANI quoted Sarma as saying.

New Delhi: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday announced withdrawal of all Covid-19 restrictions in the state.

The Chief Minister also said there will be no curfew in the state from February 15.

“There will be no curfew in Assam from February 15th and all COVID-19 restrictions are hereby withdrawn,” ANI quoted Sarma as saying.

“I appeal to all students, who appear in Class 10th and Class 12th examinations to take Covid-19 vaccines,” he added.

The decision comes a day after Sarma said the Assam government would withdraw all Covid restrictions if the cases do not surge in the state.

“If Covid cases do not surge, we will withdraw all Covid-related restrictions from February 15. Night curfew will be withdrawn, schools and colleges will also reopen,” he told the media in Guwahati, adding the people will be allowed to celebrate Bihu in the state.

Earlier on Saturday, the National Health Mission (NHM), Assam, said 256 new Covid-19 cases were detected in the state, taking the total active cases to 8,354.

The National Health Mission said 12 more people died due to the virus, taking the total number of deaths in the state to 6,561.

Around 2,471 patients were discharged earlier on Saturday, taking the total number of those discharged so far to 7,05,118.

The National Health Mission added that 10,691 Covid-19 tests were conducted earlier on Saturday, while the positivity rate was 2.39%.

The National Health Mission also informed that the recovery rate in the state stands at 97.75%, while death due to Covid-19 is 0.91%.
