Anurag Kashyap, Ramchandra Guha, & 47 Other Eminent Personalities Write To PM Modi On Mob Lynching

In the letter dated 23rd July 2019 by 49 celebrities, it says that the lynching of Muslims, Dalits and other minorities must be stopped immediately.

NEW DELHI: Eminent personalities, film industry directors and actors such as Ketan Mehta, Mani Ratnam, Anurag Kashyap, and Aparna Sen, in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressed concern over the growing trend of lynching by a mob in India. In the letter dated 23rd July 2019 by the 49 celebrities, it states that the lynching of Muslims, Dalits and other minorities must be stopped immediately. "What action has been actually been taken against the perpetrators? We strongly feel that such offenses should be declared non-bailable, and that exemplary punishment should be meted out swiftly and surely." the letter further added. The celebrities also say that no certain individual should be branded as 'anti-national' or 'Urban Naxal' because of the dissent against the government. "No citzen shoud have to live in fear in his/her own country", the letter says. It is reported that the open letter was signed by social activists, filmmakers and artists like Adoor Gopalkrishnan, Mani Ratnam, Anurag Kashyap, Binayak Sen, Soumitro Chatterjee, Aparna Sen, Konkana Sen Sharma, Revathy, Shyam Benegal, Shubha Mudgal, Rupam Islam, Anupam Roy, Parambrata, Riddhi Sen. The letter says, "You have criticized such lynchings in Parliament Mr. Prime Minister, but that is not enough! What action has actually been taken against the perpetrators?" "Regrettably "Jai Shri Ram" has become a provocative "war cry" today that leads to law and order problems, and many lynchings take place in its name," it added.
